The UP Beta Sigma Fraternity together with the UP League of Filipino Students and Kabataan Partylist joined hand in hand in celebrating the Fraternity’s 66th Founding Anniversary with a Tree Growing Activity at the University of the Philippines Visayas Centennial Forest (UPV CenFor), Miagao, Iloilo, July 14, 2012.

Despite of the heavy rain early morning of that day, Betans based in Panay and student Organizations in UPV affiliated by the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity residents, still persevered to make into reality the E. O. 26 – National Tree Greening Program of President Noynoy Aquino with the aim, ‘Pangalagaan ang Tahanan ng Lahi’. Together with the Office of the DENR headed by Sec. Ramon Paje and the Office of DA headed by Sec. Processo Alcala, both are Betans, led the Simultaneous Tree Growing Activity of the Fraternity all throughout the Philippines and even abroad.

In Iloilo, around 40 strong and noble Betans and 15 students contributed in saving mother earth by planting approximately 300 to 400 seedlings in the UPV CenFor. The UPV CenFor is one of the noble and ambitious projects of the Fraternity to arrest the environmental problems that we are facing today. Thus, this year’s Anniversary theme, “Alay ng Kapatiran sa Inang Kalikasan” was made into reality.

A solidarity lunch (boodle fight) followed the Tree Growing Activity at the residence of Brod Ulysses Alama UPV ’89, one of the members of the founding batch of UPV Beta Sigma Fraternity. And the day was closed with a traditional fellowship with students who participated in the activity. #
